The Bachkovo Monastery solemnly celebrated its heavenly patron - the Assumption of the Mother of God. The Virgin Who Cares for Life, in the words of St. Cosma Maumuski! Mary, of the family of David, who conceived and bore without knowing a man, and in his assumption returned, still so pure, to the same One, who lived in the womb by the will of the heavenly Father. The miracle of immaculate conception continues to astonish the pure in heart and disturbs the malicious ones. The unbelievable has actually been made by the Creator's venerable intention to illuminate the path of deceived mankind again to unity with the Lord.
The service cycle went on, as announced, beginning with a small vesper on 14.08.2018. and ending with a liturgy on 15.08. The vigil was led by the abbot of the monastery, archimandrite Samuil, and the holy liturgy was served by the Bishop of Messemvria Jacob, in community with prayerful participation of the Orthodox people and with the singing of the ten church acolytes.
In his sermon on the feast, Archimandrite Samuel turned the attention of Christians to true dedication in the faith and following of Christ on the spiritual wakefulness that does not allow our worship and faith to pass into formal satisfaction of a traditional temple visit, the lighting of candles and the touch of icons. God does not look badly at this, but truly enjoys the broken and pure heart, full of kindness, humility, and love for the fellow-man.
From the morning the monastery is full of believers who come to pay tribute and worship to the Holy Virgin and receive the blessing of her miraculous Bachkovo icon.
To the believers were given: the festive kolivo(boiled wheat) and the fish kurban.
The monastic fraternity constantly makes every endeavor to maintain the Cloister of the Holy Virgin at its best condition; this is the condition the cloister really deserves to be in, in order to welcome the thousands of pilgrims that visit it every year, truly beautifully and impress them.
The maintenance of the fund and the restoration of the many unique frescoes, inherited by the holy forefathers, could be quite costly and the monastery does not always manage to cover all the expenses. For this very reason, we turn for help to every Christian and to everyone who values the Bachkovo monastery, to contribute within their means and thus join our efforts.
Every charitable deed will be welcomed with honest gratitude and intercessory prayer in the name of Jesus Christ and the Holy Mother for wellbeing and success of the contributor and their family.
