The second day of Easter is the day of the pilgrimage journey of the miraculous icon of the Holy Mother of God from the Bachkovo Monastery, which it has been traveled every year for more than four hundred years to the place of its hiding, survival and finding in the early 17th century. The icon slowly passes the narrow mountain road to Saint Kluvia, the place where it was hidden carried on the shoulders of dedicated and frequented believers, some of whom come from across the border in order to fulfill the vow of service of St. Bogoroditsa and accompanied by the abbot of the monastery, the brothers of the cloister and thousands of Orthodox Christians,. Throughout the road, a church choir fulfills the mountain with its chants in the glory to the Mother of Christ. The abbot celebrates mass in the small chapel in the locality. Monks give out boiled mutton to the believers. Many wash them in the blessed waters of the holy spring, and all pass through the small cave hidden in the rocks, where the miraculous image has been spent more than a century.
The Icon returned back to the monastery at 5’30 p.m.
The monastic fraternity constantly makes every endeavor to maintain the Cloister of the Holy Virgin at its best condition; this is the condition the cloister really deserves to be in, in order to welcome the thousands of pilgrims that visit it every year, truly beautifully and impress them.
The maintenance of the fund and the restoration of the many unique frescoes, inherited by the holy forefathers, could be quite costly and the monastery does not always manage to cover all the expenses. For this very reason, we turn for help to every Christian and to everyone who values the Bachkovo monastery, to contribute within their means and thus join our efforts.
Every charitable deed will be welcomed with honest gratitude and intercessory prayer in the name of Jesus Christ and the Holy Mother for wellbeing and success of the contributor and their family.
