VISIT OF THE GERMAN PRESIDENT IN THE BACHKOV MONASTERY
On 05.04.2019 the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his companions visited the Bachkovo Monastery as part of the cultural program of his visit to Bulgaria. The President was greeted by the newly appointed abbot of the monastery, Velichki Bishop Sioniy and the former one, archim Samuel, at the entrance to the monastery. The president was invited by grandfather Sioniy to the monastery abbot of the town for a brief meeting and treat.
His Eminence, Bishop Sioniy introduced the guest to the historical role of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church in the preservation of the Bulgarian national identity and faith as well as to the spiritual life of our holy church today in the preservation of Christian values and moral and to the special place of the Bachkovo Monastery of the Most Holy Mother of God in the church life of the Bulgarians.
Mr. President thanked for the warm reception and wished Bishop Sioniy a success in his service for the good of Bachkovo Monastery in his being as center of faith and spirituality.
Then the high-ranking guests were acquainted with the models of Christian art and architecture preserved in Bachkovo Monastery.
The monastic fraternity constantly makes every endeavor to maintain the Cloister of the Holy Virgin at its best condition; this is the condition the cloister really deserves to be in, in order to welcome the thousands of pilgrims that visit it every year, truly beautifully and impress them.
The maintenance of the fund and the restoration of the many unique frescoes, inherited by the holy forefathers, could be quite costly and the monastery does not always manage to cover all the expenses. For this very reason, we turn for help to every Christian and to everyone who values the Bachkovo monastery, to contribute within their means and thus join our efforts.
Every charitable deed will be welcomed with honest gratitude and intercessory prayer in the name of Jesus Christ and the Holy Mother for wellbeing and success of the contributor and their family.
